Short description
Naprosyn (Naproxen) is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps.
Manufacture: Healing Pharma Pvt. Ltd.
Full description
Naprosyn (Naproxen) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is widely used for its long-lasting relief.
COMMON USES
Naprosyn (Naproxen) is versatile and used for both acute and chronic pain:
Chronic Inflammation: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
Acute Muscle/ Bone Pain: sprains, strains, backaches, and tendonitis.
Menstrual Cramps: very effective for primary dysmenorrhea.
Gout: relief of acute gout attacks.
General Aches: fever, headaches, and toothaches.
HOW IT WORKS
Like other NSAIDs, Naprosyn (Naproxen) blocks the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. This prevents the production of prostaglandins, the lipid compounds that cause the sensation of pain and trigger swelling.
Naprosyn (Naproxen) has a longer half-life than many other NSAIDs (like Ibuprofen), meaning it stays in your system longer and usually only needs to be taken twice a day.
HOW TO TAKE
Common doses range from 250 mg to 500 mg.
Usually taken twice daily (every 12 hours).
Swallow tablets whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew enteric coated (EC) tablets, as they are designed to protect your stomach. Always take Naprosyn (Naproxen) with food or milk to reduce the risk of stomach irritation.
For chronic conditions, it works best when taken regularly at the same time each day.
SIDE EFFECTS
Common: heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, headache, dizziness, and drowsiness.
Gastrointestinal: fluid retention (bloating) or constipation.
Serious (Rare): ringing in the ears (tinnitus), severe skin reactions, or vision changes.
Emergency: chest pain, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or black/bloody stools.
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS
Cardiovascular Risk: long-term use may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, especially in those with existing heart disease.
Stomach Ulcers: there is a significant risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. This risk increases if you are over 65 or take steroids/ blood thinners.
Kidney Function: long-term use can strain the kidneys. Ensure you stay well-hydrated.
Asthma: some people with asthma may experience NSAID-sensitive breathing issues.
Pregnancy: should be avoided during the last 3 months of pregnancy (third trimester) as it may cause heart defects in the baby or complications during delivery.
Alcohol: avoid or limit alcohol, as the combination significantly irritates the stomach lining.
Contact your doctor if you notice any unusual swelling, unexplained weight gain, or if your pain does not improve after 7 - 10 days of use.
Please remember, all the information given above is a summary. You should visit your doctor to get more information about this medicine. Do not share Naprosyn (Naproxen) with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medication for other health conditions. Do not store Naprosyn (Naproxen) with an end term of its storage.
